Zinc deficiency linked to activation of disease signalling pathway

Zinc deficiency can activate an embryonic biomolecular pathway that leads to the development of diseases such as lung, prostate and ovarian cancer and even autism, new research shows. The pathway, known as “Hedgehog", is essential for transmission of information to embryonic cells required for proper cell development but in adults malfunction of this pathway is involved in growth of disease cells.
