Vitamin b1 supplementation lowers blood pressure in people with hyperglycaemia

High dose vitamin B1 supplementation lowers diastolic blood pressure in people with early-stage hyperglycemia and may have a role in the prevention of further vascular complications, according to Indian researchers. In the double-blind, randomised trial 12 hyperglycemic subjects (10 cases of impaired glucose tolerance and two new cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus) received both placebo and thiamine capsules (3×100mg/day) for six weeks in a cross-over manner. They were evaluated at the start, after three weeks and on the completion of each arm.
