Selenium supplements have edge on placebo in reducing age related cataracts in men

Taking daily supplements of selenium appears to have a non-significant effect on preventing the development of age-related cataracts in men “although a... potentially important benefit cannot be ruled out”, say the authors of a subanalyisis of the SELECT trial. They concluded, however, that there was no reduction in cataract incidence gained from taking a vitamin E supplement.
