Probiotics may protect against oestrogen deficiency related bone loss

There is a link between gut bacteria and the bone loss that occurs after menopause, new US research shows. In this month's issue of the Journal of Clinical Investigation a research team led by Roberto Pacifici MD at Emory University, in Atlanta, Georgia write about their data showing that mice lacking gut bacteria were protected against the oestrogen deficiency-induced inflammation, gut permeability, and bone loss that occurred in mice with normal gut bacteria.
