Medical marijuana lowers prescription drug use and saves government coffers

People who use marijuana produced for medical purposes use less prescription medicines, according to recent U.S data. Medical marijuana use is also linked to a corresponding decrease of the bottom line of the United States’ prescription drug benefit program, Medicare, in states that have legalised its use for medicinal purposes, according to University of Georgia in Alabama, researchers in a study published this week in the July issue of Health Affairs.
