Macular degeneration awareness still an issue

This week is Macular Degeneration Awareness Week and according to a recent  survey conducted by the Macular Disease Foundation Australia, only 1% of Australians over the age of 50 know about the Amsler grid. The Amsler grid is a simple self-test to monitor for symptoms of macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness and severe vision loss in Australia.  The test is also something that is very easy and quick for primary health care providers to recommend and explain to patients.
