Low vitamin d puts aussie heart surgery patients at risk of falls

Australian heart surgery patients are being placed at greater risk of falls due to low vitamin D levels despite multiple opportunities for the deficiency to have been picked up pre op, new data shows. Researchers from the Alfred Hospital and Monash University, led by Dr Lesley Braun, examined the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in and insufficiency in elective cardiothoracic surgical patients which they compared with recent Victorian statistics for people in the same age-group.
