Low serum vitamin b12 levels common in older adults with normal nutritional assessment

Older adults who have been evaluated to have a normal nutritional status can still be vitamin B12 deficient, according to recently published data. The researchers, from the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Science of Porto University, Porto, Portugal, argue that their study results mean that elderly people should have their serum vitamin B12 levels checked independently of their Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) results.
