Approximately 69% of the Australian population use complementary medicines. Pharmacy customers expect their pharmacists to know about complementary medicines, to be able to make appropriate product recommendations, while also providing information about their safety and efficacy. Being able to provide qualified, accurate and appropriate advice on complementary medicines has never been more relevant.
Blackmores Institute are pleased to announce that they will be running an Integrative Prescribing in Pharmacy masterclass in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this August and September.
This CPD accredited masterclass will focus on teaching pharmacists the fundamentals of an integrative prescribing model and its application in Pharmacy.
Integrative prescribing is the process by which Pharmacists can effectively consult with a customer in order to develop a management plan for their presenting condition(s) using appropriate, evidence based complementary medicine, either alone or in conjunction with conventional medicines.
Facilitated by pharmacist Bobby Mehta and naturopath Karen Latter, the evening masterclasses
will provide an introduction to the Blackmores Institute Integrative Prescribing Guide - a new tool designed to provide pharmacists with a simple framework to support effective integrative prescribing, which can be used to provide structure to integrative medicine consultations with customers.
Pharmacists will also be provided with useful clinical refreshers, as well as case studies to demonstrate the clinical applications of the integrative prescribing model.
By attending this Masterclass, pharmacists will learn the fundamentals of applying an integrative prescribing model, including:
1. The steps to taking an integrative case
2. How to develop an integrative plan for the management of common conditions
3. Counselling patients on the safe and effective use of complementary medicines for a range of clinical indications
4. How to use prescribing indications for key complementary medicines with case study examples
These masterclasses, hosted and delivered by Bobby Mehta and Karen Latter, will be interactive sessions, with a healthy dinner, plenty of case studies and practical information to help pharmacists easily apply their new knowledge into their own practices.
Blackmores Institute “Integrative Prescribing in Pharmacy” will be held in Brisbane on Tuesday 21st August 2018, Sydney on Wednesday 22nd August 2018 and Melbourne on Wednesday 5th September 2018.
