Higher vitamin k intake protective against cardiovascular disease and cancer

A diet high in vitamin K protects against cardiovascular disease and cancer, a recent study suggests. Published online in the Journal of Clinical Nutrition this month, the Spanish study1 included over 7000 people from a Mediterranean population at high cardiovascular disease risk, and showed those who increased their intake of the two forms of vitamin K - phylloquinone (vitamin K 1) and menaquinone (vitamin K 2) - had a lower risk of cancer and all-cause mortality than individuals who decreased or did not change their intake.
