High dose vitamin d supplementation essential after bariatric surgery study

Vitamin D supplementation to achieve normal 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) levels after bariatric surgery is essential, according to research published this month. Despite differences in post-op vitamin D status between patients undergoing either laparoscopy sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) or laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB), the researchers, writing in the journal Obesity Surgery, conclude that “all patients undergoing bariatric surgery should receive high-dose vitamin D supplementation” irrespective of the surgical technique used.
