Folate supplementation lowers glaucoma risk

Taking a folate supplement decreases the risk of getting exfoliation glaucoma (EG) new research shows. The US-based cohort study published online in JAMA Ophthalmology this month assessed about 80,000 men (all health professionals) and 40,000 women (all registered nurses) between 1980 and 2010 and found higher intakes of vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and folate were linked to lower homocysteine levels.
