Celebrating Natural Medicine Week | 19–25 May
This week, we’re celebrating Natural Medicine Week, an initiative led by the Australian Traditional-Medicine Society (ATMS), which recognises the significant contribution natural medicine practitioners make to individual and community wellbeing.
At Blackmores Institute, we’re proud to support this national event by spotlighting the value of naturopathy and natural health in the broader healthcare system — both in Australia and globally.
Exploring the potential of naturopathy
To mark the week, we’ve published a feature article, ‘Naturopathy - an untapped health resource’. This piece examines findings from a global review of naturopathic practice, which sheds light on the profession’s role in helping manage some of the world’s most pressing health concerns — from cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes to mental health conditions.
The review highlights how naturopaths apply an evidence-based, patient-centred approach — often focused on diet, lifestyle, and behavioural change — to support chronic disease prevention and management. It also points to the potential for naturopathy to ease pressure on overstretched healthcare systems, calling for greater integration and recognition of the profession.
Practitioner Voices: Insights from the industry
Throughout the week, we’re also sharing insights from experienced practitioners who are shaping the future of natural health. These conversations highlight the evolving role of naturopaths and allied professionals in delivering safe, effective, and personalised care.
Tammy Guest – Naturopath, mentor and business leader – shares her perspective on cultivating strong professional leadership and prioritising practitioner wellbeing.
Dr Brad Leech – Clinical nutritionist, herbalist and educator – explores how emerging microbiome research is influencing clinical practice, and why integrative care is key to better health outcomes.
