Beetroot juice reduces muscle damage following eccentric exercise

Antioxidant rich beetroot juice reduces the muscle-damaging effects of drop jumps in exercise, a study shows. Three groups of recreationally active males (N= 30) were allocated to consume a high dose of beetroot juice (250 ml), a lower dose of beetroot juice (125 ml), or an isocaloric placebo (250 ml) immediately, 24 and 48 hours (×2 servings) following the completion of 100 drop jumps.
