Signs and symptoms of common nutritional deficiencies

“The nutrients I have chosen to speak to you about are the nutrients that I have found to be a problem in my private practice,” said Associate Professor Antigone Kouris, of the Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, La Trobe University, Melbourne at the inaugural Blackmores Institute Symposium held in Sydney on 25-26 July. Associate Professor Kouris shared a slide containing a list: Iron, Zinc, Magnesium, Iodine, Calcium, Vitamin D and Vitamin B12. “As you can see here there are five minerals and only two vitamins so that would suggest there seems to be more of a mineral deficiency than a vitamin deficiency in Australia,” she said.
