Probiotics could target toxic gut bacteria in severe burn and trauma patients

Restoring balance to gastrointestinal bacteria using probiotics could be aid in reducing infectious complications in burns patients, US research suggests. The researchers, led by Dr. Mashkoor Choudhry, Professor in the Burn and Shock Trauma Research Institute at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, found that burn patients experience dramatic changes in the bacteria inside the gastrointestinal tract indicating that burn patients might benefit from treatment with probiotics.
