Gastrointestinal signs of long COVID - a potential key to treatment

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the syndrome known as long-COVID, or post COVID syndrome, has become a recognised health concern. Many of this condition’s signs and symptoms occur through the virus’s effect on the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.

There are several hypotheses regarding the discovery and implication of reservoirs of coronavirus fragments in the GI tract for those experiencing long-COVID. Understanding how the disease affects the digestive tract and recognising the signs and symptoms of infection will assist in making informed therapeutic choices, leading to better health outcomes.
