Algae combats UV-related skin damage

A compound derived from algae may be protective against harmful ultra-violet radiation new research from Japan has shown.

Supplementation with astaxanthin, a red carotenoid found in shrimp, crab, salmon and microalgae, resulted in an increase in minimal erythema dose (MED) and reduced loss of skin moisture when compared to placebo.
